GCW Udhampur hosts awareness lecture on “Rights & responsibilities of students in Educational Institution”

UDHAMPUR, MAY 24: An awareness lecture on “Rights and Responsibilities of students in Educational Institution and at work places” was organized today by Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) of Government Women College Udhampur here under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahtosav(AKAM), G20 and Mission life campaigns. 

The College Principal, Prof. Anjali Mahajan was the chief guest on the occasion.

The Chief Guest, in her address, hailed organizers for spreading awareness among the students to enhance their knowledge about their rights and responsibilities in educational institutions and also to use them in right perspective.

The resource person, Sandeep Kour, Member District Child Welfare Committee,   highlighted the rights of a woman and legal remedies under law. She also talked in detail about 10 women safety rights that women should know. She further shed light on section 354, section 294, National Commission for Women Act, 1990, zero FIR etc.

She further added that there are some remedies against sexual harassment which a student should know like punishment under Indian Penal Code, Punishment under POCSO etc. 

  She also enlightened the students by citing the example of Vishakha v/s State of Rajasthan, (1997) 6 SECC 241 guidelines. She concluded her talk with a query session in which students cleared their doubts and shared their experience too.

Earlier, Dr. Seema Sharma, Convener CASH presented a formal welcome address. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Kritika Thakur, a student of semester-II while the vote of thanks was presented by Aastha, a student of semester-II.      

Around 90 Students attended the programme. Yasmeen Rehman, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee, Udhampur. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Sumita Rao, Prof. Tania Akhtar, Prof. Shallu Jasrotia, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof. Rajinder Singh,  Dinesh Kumar and Prof. Yash Kumar graced the occasion with their benign presence.
