Gandhi College organizes Annual Cross Country Run for Girls

SRINAGAR, May 07: Gandhi College Tuesday hosted its Annual Cross Country Run for female students.

The 5-kilometer race was flagged-off by the Principal of the College, Prof A. Wahid Makhdoomi at 7.07AM from Duck Park foreshore road.

Over 60 girl students lined up at the starting line, ready to test their endurance and skills. The course took runners through the foreshore road, winding along the edge of the Dal Lake.

Second-Semester student Umaira Jan finished in first place, completing the course in an impressive time of 25 minutes and 22 seconds. Umaira, an accomplished long-distance runner, pulled ahead of the pack early on and maintained a steady pace to secure the victory.

“I’m thrilled to have won the cross country run,” said Umaira. “The training has really paid off, and I am proud to represent Gandhi College. This is just the start – I’m looking forward to more competitions in the future,” she added.

Second and third place went to Muskaan Rehman and Huriya Nazir of 2nd and 4th Semesters respectively. The top finishers received trophies and certificates in recognition of their achievements. Two consolation prizes were bagged by Soliha Tariq and Mewish Showla respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the College lauded the role of the faculty and the supporting staff of the college for making the event a great success.

Further, he said that the event showcased the talent and athleticism of Gandhi College’s female student body and the annual cross country run continues to be an important tradition that promotes fitness, College spirit, and healthy competition.
