New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday dismissed Congress MP Jairam Ramesh’s “triple jhatka” remark on Indian foreign policy and diplomacy following Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump’s telephonic conversation, noting that such remarks come from a ‘party whose lies are routinely exposed.’
Responding to Ramesh’s criticism of PM Modi’s phone call with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Puri emphasised the nature of the call.
“You have to see that these statements are coming from a political party whose lies are exposed daily. The Prime Minister was to meet the US President, but Trump returned early … After that, they had a 35-minute telephone conversation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave a readout of it… This makes it clear that after April 22, we said that those who have perpetrated this terror attack will not go unpunished,” Puri said.
“And by launching Operation Sindoor, where nine of their terrorist hideouts were destroyed…after that, their (Pakistan) DGMO called and asked for the cessation of hostilities. This is bilateral; these things have become clear, and after this, the Congress party will find it difficult to give false statements… There is a diminishing return to these lies,” he added.
Earlier today, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticised India’s foreign policy, calling it a “triple jhatka”.
He pointed to Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir being invited for a special lunch with US President Trump, despite his alleged links to the Pahalgam terror attacks. He also highlighted US Central Command Head General Michael Kurilla’s praise of Pakistan as a “phenomenal partner”, contrasting it with India’s view of Pakistan as a “phenomenal perpetrator”.
“Understand the ‘triple jhatka’ that the Indian foreign policy and diplomacy has received. Today Field Marshal Asim Munir whose provocative, incendiary, and inflammatory comments are directly linked to the Pahalgam terror attacks. He is today invited for a one-on-one special lunch with President Trump. This is a setback for Indian diplomacy. We are quiet about it, we have not objected to it…Second, General Michael Kurilla who is the Head of the US Central Command says that Pakistan is a phenomenal partner in counter-terrorism. We are saying Pakistan is a phenomenal perpetrator..”
He further claimed President Trump has repeatedly claimed to mediate between India and Pakistan, and demanded transparency to address Parliament directly about the 35-minute Modi-Trump phone call. “Third, from May 10 onwards, 14 times President Trump has been claiming that he mediated a ceasefire, he used trade as an instrument, he put Pakistan and India together…PM was silent. This was not countered…” (ANI)
