Fortnightly activities on Gandhi Jayanti celebrations concludes in GCW Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 30: Literary club and department of Music, in collaboration with Heritage Club Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur today organized a valedictory ceremony to mark the end of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations -a fortnightly series of programs organized with effect from 12 Sept. to 2nd Oct.2023.

The entire events during this period were convened under the theme ‘TRUTH AND NON VIOLENCE’ under the patronage of the Literary Club of the college.

The proceedings of the programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by officiating Principal of the college Prof. Kewal Kumar who was also the chief guest on this afternoon.

 Prof. Kewal Kumar, while addressing the audience, said that Truth and Non-violence are two cardinal principles of Gandhian thoughts. For Gandhiji, Truth is the relative truth of truthfulness in word and deed, and the absolute truth-the ultimate reality. The education should be based on ethics and morals which helps in formation of character.

Dr. Mool Raj convenor of the Literary Club of the college and coordinator of the program presented the detailed report of various events and activities carried out during entire campaign to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti 2023.These activities included screening of movie on life and work of Mahatma Gandhi, awareness program on Nasha Mukt Bharat and Bhrashtachar Mukt Jammu and Kashmir, Student Rally, Creating reels, symposiums, slogan writing, visit to public libraries and parks, singing competitions, book reading, quiz competition, seminars , group discussions, Sit -Truth and society, sanitation work in the college, creating Gandhian gallery and students exhibition of products made by them on earning while learning.

He lauded the efforts of all the departments, Clubs, committees, NCC and NSS volunteers for organizing such events for the larger benefits of the student community. He further urged the respective clubs to organize such programmes in the near future for rightful insight to Gandhian philosophy.

A colourful cultural program was also presented by the students of the college on this occasion to realise Gandhiji’s dream of harmonious development of child education.

 Around 150 volunteers’ students of the college, Faculty Members, Members of Literary Club, Heritage Club, Cultural Committee, NSS and NCC including various Heads of the department and other faculty members of the college participated in the programme. The entire proceeding of the valedictory ceremony was convened under Heritage Club and Department of Music.
