Forest Ecology and Environment Department Launches Environment Week in Nubra Valley
Nubra, 30 may, 2025: The Forest Ecology and Environment Department officially launched Environment Week on 30th May with a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation across Nubra Valley.

The week-long initiative commenced with a cleanliness drive at Khardung La Top, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. The event saw enthusiastic participation from tourists, Army personnel, and department officials, highlighting a strong community spirit toward environmental responsibility.

Following the cleanliness drive, a tree plantation program was organized at Khardong village, where local tree species and evergreen saplings were planted. The drive saw active involvement from the Nambardar (village head) and local villagers, underlining the department’s efforts to engage and empower local communities in preserving their natural surroundings.
This environmental campaign will continue through the 5th of June, marking World Environment Day, with various activities planned across Nubra Valley to raise awareness and encourage sustainable practices.
