Empowering Adolescents: Addressing Substance Abuse and Mental Health

 Leh, 24 April: The Health and Family Welfare Department  under Mental Health (NCD) in collaboration with the District Health Society under RKSK outreach program by AFHC counsellor organised a school awareness program under Mental health on substance abuse at Higher Secondary School Skalzangling.

Dr. Farhana Iqbal, District Health Officer, emphasized the program’s role in equipping adolescents with resilience and confidence by raising awareness about substance abuse and mental health.

Clinical Psychologist Jigmet Wangmo discussed stress management, identifying stressors in academic and personal spheres. She emphasized proactive stress management to prevent anxiety and substance abuse, underlining the crucial role of familial support.

The discussion also addressed the link between anxiety and substance use, with a focus on cannabis abuse among adolescents. Strategies for stress management were briefly outlined, highlighting the need for education and awareness.

Diskit Angmo, an AFHC counselor from SNM Leh, highlighted the identity crisis during adolescence and emphasized confidential support avenues.

 Tanveer Ahmad, AFHC Counselor from SNM Leh, concluded the session by introducing activities to strengthen attention, offering a holistic approach to address adolescents’ challenges.
