EC ‘s recent order to destroy elections records after 45 days, is another blow to democracy – Ravinder Sharma
End unrest amongst Jammu youth over Naib Tehsildar selections
Jammu, June 22- JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Mr Ravinder Sharma has expressed serious concern over the Election commission ‘s recent order directing destruction of elections records after 45 days, if no election petition is filed within that period & termed it another blow to transparency & accountability in the elections process in the country.
Reacting strongly to the recent order of ECI directing destruction of all election related records after 45 days, instead of earlier period of one year for persevering the same after any election, amounts to destruction of all evidence, to find out facts and irregularities. Removal & destruction of all evidence related to any elections by the ECI, sooner than later, is most unfortunate and serious step said JKPCC Chief Spokesperson while sharing the serious concern shown by the LOP Shri Rahul Gandhi over the current election process .
Echoing the concern and significant questions raised by LOP over the transparency and accountability of elections citing from the Maharashtra polls, Mr Sharma said that one after another step being taken by the Election Commission and the Government are in the direction of hiding evidence , rather than transparency in the elections system .
He said that some recent actions related to the election system by the present government are very serious attack on democracy & rightly espoused by Shri Rahul Gandhi and some other senior leaders of INDIA block besides by several senior lawyers & large number of awakened & fearless citizens in the country.
Quoting the undoing of the five bench judgment of Supreme Court mandating CJI to be the part of three members selection panel for CEC & ECs , through Parliament, by Modi government, he said it should be enough to understand the intentions of the government in the direction of maintaining control over the process.
The vital questions raised by LOP, after thorough investigations into the entire process of elections in Maharashtra, are clear indications of something seriously wrong , as stated by him.
Those who want to overlook these startling facts , can do so , but Shri Rahul Gandhi has come out clearly with important facts which has ignited a very serious debate in the direction of safeguarding democratic process and democracy itself.
Mr Sharma also expressed concern over the unrest amongst youth over the issue of Urdu being compulsory for Naib Tehsildar selections & questioned the delay in clearing the position in this regard at the earliest, particularly when precedents are available in such matters.
He reiterated the party’s stand that all official languages should enjoy equal treatment and no candidate should suffer on this count.
