Drugs and Bovine Smuggling: A Growing Concern for Jammu and Kashmir: Pawan Sharma
Jammu, 28 May 2025: Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir, former State Secretary BJP J&K and Prabhari of District Doda, Pawan Sharma, has expressed deep concern over the rising menace of drug abuse and bovine smuggling in the region.

Speaking on the urgent need to curb these growing threats, Sharma emphasized that both drug trafficking and bovine smuggling are not only law and order issues but also pose a severe threat to the socio-cultural fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the administration and law enforcement agencies to take swift and effective action against those involved in these illegal and anti-social activities.
The proliferation of drugs in Jammu and Kashmir has reached alarming proportions. The easy availability of narcotics is ruining the lives of our youth, leading to addiction, health problems, and even death. The situation is further exacerbated by the involvement of organized crime syndicates, which are exploiting the vulnerable sections of society.
Bovine smuggling is another serious issue that needs immediate attention. The smuggling of cattle not only leads to economic losses but also poses a significant threat to animal welfare and public health. The unchecked movement of cattle across the border is also linked to the spread of diseases.
“The involvement of youth in drug abuse is alarming and heartbreaking. We cannot allow our future generations to fall prey to this poison. Similarly, bovine smuggling is hurting religious sentiments and disturbing communal harmony,” said Sharma.
He called for a collaborative effort involving local communities, civil society, and government agencies to eradicate these evils. Sharma also stressed the importance of awareness campaigns, stronger policing, and community-based interventions to safeguard the youth and uphold the law.
He also reiterated the party’s commitment to maintaining peace, order, and moral integrity in Jammu and Kashmir, and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
Sharma further stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are entitled to a safe and secure environment, free from the threats of drugs and bovine smuggling. It is our collective responsibility to work towards creating a society that is free from these social evils. We urge the authorities to take swift action and ensure that those involved in these illicit activities are brought to justice.
