DLSA Srinagar raises awareness on NALSA scheme 2010 at Women’s College Zakura

SRINAGAR, MAY 20: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in collaboration with Srinagar Women’s College Batpora, Zakura, Srinagar organized an awareness programme on NALSA (Legal Services to Disaster through Legal Services Authorities) scheme 2010, within the college premises, here.
The event was part of a broader initiative to inform the public about the legal rights and remedies available to disaster-affected individuals under this national scheme.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar and Prof. Syed Ifat Ara, Principal of Srinagar Women’s College.


In her welcome address, Prof. Syed Ifat Ara highlighted the importance of integrating legal awareness with higher education. She applauded the collaborative initiative and emphasized that such awareness programmes are vital to building informed and empowered communities, especially in disaster-prone regions.
She noted that bridging legal knowledge with academic spaces strengthens the social fabric by ensuring students and citizens are aware of the support systems available to them.


Panel Lawyer of DLSA Srinagar, Advocate Suhaila Ali served as the resource person for the event. She elaborated on the objectives and key provisions of the NALSA Scheme 2010, explaining how it ensures legal aid to victims of natural and man-made disasters. She emphasized the need for timely legal support in crisis situations and encouraged participants to disseminate the information within their communities.


Her interactive session clarified various aspects of the scheme, including eligibility criteria, access points for legal aid, and the role of Legal Services Authorities in disaster response.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students and faculty to engage with the resource persons.
