DLSA Leh celebrates International Women’s week

LEH, March 4: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Leh today celebrated International Women’s week at DC conference Hall.

Principal, District and Session Judge, Leh/Chairman, District Chairman Legal Sevices, Leh , Yash Pal Sharma asserted that awareness regarding laws has to be created at mass level so that women are aware about their rights.

He informed that the day-care and recreation centre (Ahate-e-Waqar ) for senior citizens at SNM, Hospital Leh will be revived which was stopped during COVID -19 pandemic. Further, he informed that the District Legal Service Authority will also provide a raft of medical facilities including geriatric care, health consultations and check-ups as well as legal service to the senior citizens.

Member Secretary, Ladakh Legal Service Authority, Spalzes Angmo added that women play a very crucial role and are the backbone of society. She apprised the participants about Para Legal Volunteer for the needy and the poor.

Also, briefed about the Tele-law facility where dedicated lawyers have been empanelled to provide continued legal advice and consultation to the beneficiaries. Further, she informed that they have released Rs 10 lakh victim compensation in both Leh and Kargil. Besides, she informed that soon Legal Aid Defense Counsel System will start in Leh and Kargil.

SSP, Leh, PD Nitya talked about women’s rights and highlighted how women should stand up for their rights and contribute to empowering the one who needs to be empowered. She added that this kind of awareness campaign should be organised at subdivision and tehsil levels as well. She added that women should be educated and financially independent which will give them empowerment in the real sense. She concluded the discussion with the statement that women should support women to rise in this society.

Earlier, Secretary, DLSA, Leh Wangial Tsering, welcomed the guests and participants. He added that the main objective of organising this seminar is to make women, in general, aware of their entitlements under various enactments being provided to them. He said that the DLSA Leh provides free legal aid to the women who face violence and discrimination in the society besides making them aware with regard to their rights and incentives being provided to them. He provided information regarding different laws and acts in place for the protection of women’s rights.

An interaction session was also held at the end.  

The programme among others was attended by Assistant Public Prosecutor, Leh, Nawang Nurboo; women heads of different religious organisations, court staff and prosecution staff, and PLVs.
