DLSA Kupwara celebrates International Womens’ Day

KUPWARA, MARCH 7: District Legal Services Authority Kupwara in collaboration with Education Department Kupwara celebrated International Women’s Day with great fervor and enthusiasm, today, here.

To mark the celebration of the day,   an awareness programme was organised at Govt. Higher Secondary School Kupwara and Govt. School Teethwal. 

The programme was held under the guidance of  Chairperson DLSA and Pr. District and Sessions Judge, Kupwara, Shazia Tabasum  and   Secretary, DLSA  Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmad Khan.

The programme focused on upholding  achievements of women and to equip them  with the necessary knowledge about their Rights & empowerment besides help them to  recognize challenges of domestic violence.

Addressing the gathering, Advocate Rubeena Rashid, highlighted the importance of the day and provided invaluable insights and guidance to the participants. She said that the day also marks for gender equality that is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

Advocate Mubeena Akhter, familiarized the participants on how to lodge a complaint or register an F.I.R. in case of offences against women. 

During her speech, she also focused on free and competent legal aid and assistance as outlined in the Legal Services Act, 1987 to navigate legal challenges. She also briefed about Sexual Harassment Act at the work place.

Resource person from the Education department on her deliberations underlined the elements that define women empowerment in its truest sense and  emphasised on pragmatic approach for women empowerment.

 She also informed about various schemes initiated by the Government for the welfare and upliftment of women.

During the programme students from various institutions also delivered speeches on the said topic. 

Among others present, the programme was attended  by officials from the Education Department, teachers, female ztudents and Para Legal Volunteers of District Legal Services Authority Kupwara.

The participants expressed gratitude to the organisers for educating them about importance of the day.
