District Health Unit Kathua observes National Dengue Day

Sensitization drive carried out across the district  

KATHUA, MAY 16: National Dengue Day was observed at Chief Medical Office Kathua as well as in other health Institutions of District Kathua today under the overall guidance and supervision of Chief Medical Officer.

At the Chief Medical Officer’s Office, an awareness lecture was delivered by District Health Officer, Dr. Uttam Chand in presence of Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rakesh Magotra, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Neeraj Nagpal, Malaria Staff and other staff members.

The speakers spread awareness regarding Signs & Symptoms, Spread, Prevention, Control and Treatment of Dengue on the theme “Harness Partnership to Defeat Dengue”.

The staff and the general public were asked to take all preventive measures to stop transmission of Dengue in the imminent rainy season. The Public was advised to avoid self medication like taking of Aspirin, Ibuprofen without prescription as intake of these medications can cause complications in Dengue patients.

Audience was also sensitized about how to deal with the dengue cases and not to create panic as 95% of dengue positive cases settle down on its own without any complications. It was also informed that a Platelet component Laboratory is functional at GMC Kathua for diagnosis, besides a dedicated IPD Facility for dengue patients is available in the hospital.

Meanwhile, all BMOs were advised to keep a close eye on reported Dengue fever cases besides taking precautionary measures such as spraying in Dengue affected areas along with line listing of Dengue cases to curb further spread in the District.
