Director inaugurates newly constructed Medical Unit at NIT Srinagar
Srinagar, June 24: Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed Medical Unit on the campus aimed at providing enhanced healthcare services to students, faculty, and staff on campus.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, Dean Planning and Development Dr. Yashwant Mehta, Medical Officer Dr. Gawher Nabi, Executive Engineer Dr. Syed Mohsin, AR (Director’s Office & Legal) Mohammad Hazik, Dental Surgeon Dr. Urnaib Riyaz, Dr. Tasaduq Nazk (Physiotherapist), Mohammad Abrar Khan (Sr Pharmacist), Mr. Fairoz Malla (Counsellor), and several other faculty and staff members.
The newly constructed two-storey health centre is equipped with comprehensive medical services, including a Medical Officer, Dental Surgeon, Physiotherapist, X-ray Technician, Lab Technician, a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory, a counselling cell, and two ambulances.
Built under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) grant at a total cost of ₹5.8 crore, the project commenced on August 26, 2022, and was completed on May 15, 2025.
Following the formal inauguration, Prof.Binod Kumar Kanaujia inspected all the facilities, including the OPD section, dental clinic, physiotherapy wing, diagnostic lab, and counselling area. He interacted with the medical staff and reviewed the infrastructure and operational arrangements.
Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Kanaujia appreciated the quality of work and called for regular monitoring, maintenance, and a robust feedback mechanism from students to ensure that the facility remains efficient and responsive to evolving healthcare needs.
He also stressed the importance of health awareness and preventive care within the campus community.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Kanaujia said this upgraded medical unit is a significant addition to the institute’s infrastructure and will help ensure timely and quality medical care on campus.
“It reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Good health forms the foundation of strong academic performance,” he added.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman said the newly inaugurated health centre is a significant milestone in the institute’s journey toward strengthening campus infrastructure.
“This facility reflects our commitment to building a campus where health and education go hand in hand. A strong academic institution must also have strong support systemsand this health centre is a vital part of that vision,” he said.
Prof. Rehman expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its continued support. This medical unit, funded under the EWS grant, is not just a building; it’s an assurance of care, safety, and preparedness for our entire community,” he said.
Medical Officer Dr. Gawhar Nabi said the new facility provides 24/7 OPD and IPD services, dental care, physiotherapy, and advanced laboratory diagnostics.
The laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including a Fully Automatic Biochemistry Analyzer (Response 910), SD Biosensor F200 (HbA1c), Olympus Microscope, Remi Centrifuge, Snibe Maglumi 800 (Hormone Analyzer), and Sysmex XN330 (CBC Analyzer)bc,
