Department of Wildlife Chenab Circle, GDC Kishtwar celebrate World Wildlife Day 2023

KISHTWAR, March 3:  Department of Wildlife Chenab Circle Kishtwar in collaboration with GDC Kishtwar today celebrated World Wildlife Day under the aegis of the College Principal, Dr. Jyoti Parihar and guidance of Dr. Athar Hussain (HOD Zoology).

Khalid Abbas Munshi (Sr. Range officer Kishtwar) was the chief Guest and Dr. Ashiq Hussain (Principal GDC Chatroo) was the guest of honor for the event.

Prof. Romana Akhtar, Prof. Sachinjeet, Prof Ajay Sharma, Sheikh Mohammad Asgar (Jr. Range Officer) were among the dignitaries, who attended the event.

 A number of students from different streams also attended the event with great enthusiasm and excitement.

 Khalid Abbas Munshi, delivered a detailed presentation on the endangered species of Kishtwar National Park and stressed upon the measures to be taken for the conservation of wild fauna as well as flora. He shared his field experience and knowledge with the students and urged the students to show more compassion and responsibility towards wildlife and act as wildlife monitors and report any illegal hunting or practice to the wildlife authorities.

Dr. Sehrish Gazal (HOD Environment Sciences) was the keynote speaker of the event. She spoke about the current threats the wildlife is facing and measures to be taken for its conservation and preservation. She also gave a detailed insight of various conservation practices and strategies initiated for the betterment of wildlife.

Dr. Jyoti Parihar, in her address, spoke about endemic species of Kishtwar specially Artemisia Maritima and Bunium persicum, which have been overexploited because of their medicinal properties and may reach to its verge of extinction if immediate measures are not taken. 

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Sarita Parihar (HOD Economics).
