Department of Floriculture Jammu organises one-day training programme for farmers
JAMMU, MAY 22: The Department of Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, Jammu, under the guidance of Director General Vivek Sharma successfully conducted a one-day training programme for farmers of District Jammu at SKUAST-Jammu.
Addressing the participants, the Director General reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting Floriculture as a viable avenue for employment and livelihood generation. “Our vision is to position floriculture as a thriving enterprise across Jammu, empowering growers through modern techniques and support systems,” she stated.
The training, led by eminent faculty from SKUAST-Jammu including Dr.Vikas Tandon, Dr. Sheetal Dogra, Dr. Rakesh Sharma and Dr. Nomita provided practical insights into the commercial cultivation of key floricultural crops such as marigold, gladiolus, and chrysanthemum. Around 40 farmers benefited from the hands-on session.
A field visit to a Hi-tech Polyhouse was also organized, where Dr. R.K. Pandey emphasized the advantages of year-round cultivation under controlled environments to tap into off-season markets.
Deputy Director (Nodal Officer CSS), Sunil Singh offered guidance on the implementation of polyhouse structures, micro-irrigation, nursery techniques, and the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants.
An interactive discussion led by Joint Director Floriculture Jammu, Vikrant Sharma allowed farmers to voice their concerns and learn more about government support schemes.
The programme also saw participation of Joint Director (P&S); Gurneet Kour, Assistant Floriculture Officer In-charge CSS; Shoukat Ali and other officers from the department. The initiative was well-received, marking a significant step toward enhancing floriculture practices and farmer empowerment in the region.

JAMMU, MAY 22: Mission Director Poshan Jammu and Kashmir Kishori Lal Sharma today inaugurated the training programme for newly recruited Supervisors here in the presence of Joint Director Vinod Behnal, Programme Officer Jammu, Pankaj Anand and Deputy Director Dr Malvika Sharma.
The 10 day training programme for newly recruited supervisors encompasses the guidelines of Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 along with introduction to the schemes being implemented by the department viz Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Ladli Beti, Supplementary Nutrition Programme, Early Childhood care and education, Growth Monitoring & home visits and so on.
The batch of 106 newly recruited supervisors hail from all the district of union territory and this comprehensive training will prepare them for their future supervisory role of functioning of Anganwadi centre in their respective zones. The Supervisors guide and monitor the Anganwadi workers’ activities in the Anganwadi centres while ensuring that all the schemes are implemented accurately.
Speaking on the occasion, Mission Director Poshan welcomed the new recruits to the department and exhorted them to be focused in their approach of learning about the department schemes and policies and their implementation in the field. He further asked the Supervisors to act as a strong bridge between Beneficiaries in the Anganwadi Centres and department for par excellence in achievement of growth, health and preschool education parameters.
The Joint Director and District Programme Officer Jammu also addressed the gathering, encouraging the participants to make the most of the training.
This initiative reaffirms the ICDS Mission’s dedication to building a strong human resource for nurturing India’s future generations.
