DC Kulgam distributes Vegetable seed kits among WFSGs

KULGAM, March 18: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today distributed hybrid vegetable seed kits among Women Food Security Groups (WFSGs) of district Kulgam in convergence with JKNRLM.

This distribution camp was organised by Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Department Kulgam at Rest house Chawalgam under Sub mission on Agriculture Extension (SAME), here.

In his address, the DC emphasized the importance of quality seeds and other inputs for profitable crop production. He impressed upon the members of WFSGs to adopt modern scientific approaches to ensure sustainability and profitability in the farming sector.

ADDC, Showkat Ahmad who also attended the programme stressed on marketing of surplus produce by adoption of e-marketing.

Chief Agriculture Officer Kulgam, Sartaj Ahmad Shah said that Kashmir valley is blessed with the diverse agro climate and distinct seasons making it special place to grow wide range of vegetables including both local and exotic crops which are high in demand and have export potential both at national and international market besides generation of large number of employment opportunities.

He assured the members regarding every technical support by the department in attaining food security, sustainability and to improve the livelihood.

On the occasion Shabeer Ahmad Mir (District Resource Person HADP) highlighted the role of women in addressing the issue of food and nutritional security at domestic or household level.

He said, vegetable production will prove as a boon in achieving food security through setting up of vegetable gardens besides promoting other off-farm activities.

He discussed low cost technology methods to attain sustainability in food production and environmental resources.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Dar Technical Officer, advised participants to follow the guidelines and advisories issued by the department for betterment of the farming community.
