CUJ Organized  Educational Field Visit  to 47th ITBP Battalion, Samba

Jammu, 23 April 2024: The Department of National Security Studies, Central University of Jammu under the mentorship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain organized a one-day educational field visit to the 47 Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Camp in Samba district.


The students, scholars, faculty and staff of the department participated in the educational trip.  The trip was organized under the able leadership of Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Head Department of National Security Studies.

Border guarding forces play a vital role in securing India’s complex borders. This educational trip was to facilitate student and scholar interaction with the ITBP battalion to supplement their classroom /conceptual learning with practical experience.


The trip commenced with a warm reception by the 47 ITBP Battalion. Students, scholars, and faculty of the department were acquainted with the functioning of the ITBP through weapons/equipment display, photo exhibition, screening of ITBP Status Film, and a captivating lecture by Commandant Sh. Rakesh Kumar. The Commandant familiarizes students with the historical evolution of the ITBP, its organizational structure and the role it plays in securing and managing India’s borders. He apprised students about the various roles of the elite force in peace as well as in wartime, like maintaining internal security, upholding law and order, disaster management, peace keeping missions, etc. The Commandant also delved into the role of ITBP in implementing various development programmes as well as other flagship initiatives in border regions. The talk evoked many critical inquiries from the students and scholars. The programme concluded with special remarks by Dr R Sudhakar, Associate Professor, Department of National Security Studies.

The educational trip was coordinated by Dr. Sudhakar. Other faculty members who were part of the organizing committee were Dr. Neeta Rani, Dr. Ekta Manhas, and Dr. Anuradha Choudhary.
