CUJ Celebrates International Youth Day 2023 with a Focus on Green Skills for a Sustainable World

Jammu, October 31: Red Ribbon Club (RRC), Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir AIDS Control Society (JKACS), marked the occasion of International Youth Day 2023 with resounding celebrations. The event was held at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium on October 31, 2023. The theme for International Youth Day 2023, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” was at the heart of the event, emphasizing the importance of equipping young minds with the necessary skills for a more sustainable future.

Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CU Jammu, warmly welcomed Ambassador G. Parthasarthy, Hon’ble Chancellor, CU Jammu, Shri Madan Lal, JKAS, Deputy Director (Finance), JKACS, Dept. of  H&ME, Govt. of J&K; Mr. Rahul Gupta, District Social Welfare Officer, Ramban, dignitaries, experts, attendees from JKACS, Faculty and Students to the event.

Dr. Vinay Kumar, Nodal Officer, RRC and Associate Dean, Students’ Welfare, CU Jammu, apprised the august audience on the significance of the event and its relevance to the youth in building a sustainable future.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CU Jammu delivered the presidential address, highlighting the university’s commitment to fostering the youth’s role in building a sustainable world.

Chief Guest for the occasion, Ambassador G. Parthasarthy, Hon’ble Chancellor, CU Jammu delivered the keynote address, inspiring the youth with valuable insights and words of encouragement. The inaugural session culminated with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW), CU Jammu, expressing gratitude to all the esteemed guests, organisers and participants for their contribution to the success of the event.

The Plenary session was chaired by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, DSW & Co-chaired by Dr. Vinay Kumar, (Assoc. DSW), featuring a panel of distinguished experts who shared their experiences on the theme. The panel included Ms. Pallavi Singh, Director, J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) delivered a talk on HIV/ AIDS & Drugs. Dr. Rohit Lahori, Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu shared his views on Palliative Care and its need in modern times.  Dr. Shweta Yadav, Faculty of Environmental Science, CU Jammu discussed the role of youth in sustainable development.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Vinay Kumar, Nodal Officer, RRC, who also took the opportunity to distribute certificates to the dedicated Red Ribbon Club volunteers and students for their valuable contributions to the cause and called upon youth to take active participation in Nation building. The International Youth Day celebration at CU Jammu served as a platform to inspire young minds to acquire the essential green skills and activities that promote environmentally responsible behaviours and contribute to the global effort for a greener and more sustainable world.
