Crime Branch, Jammu files chargesheet against Drilling Engineer for embezzlement of INR 33 lakh; 7th pay commission arrears

 Jammu ,Feb 19: Crime Branch, EOW, Jammu has filed charge sheet against Drilling Engineer, then functioning as Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO-1) of Geology and Mining Department J&K Jammu, for criminal breach of trust &  embezzlement of rupees 33 lakh GPF & 7th pay commission arrears of  employees.

Accused Drilling Engineer has been identified as Aijaz Mir, who is presently under suspension. The challan of the case has been produced in the court of law for judicial determination by the Investigating Officer Inspr Taranjeet Singh under the supervision of SSP Crime, Jammu Benam Tosh.

Complainant Mr. Shiban Lal Bhat, who happened to be the then Drill Operator Grade-2 of Geology & Mining department, lodged a written complaint with the then Director Geology & Mining department J&K, Jammu alleging therein that his sanctioned GPF had been released as per message received from GP Fund office, but not received by him and that after enquiring from Treasury, he came to know that his GPF was credited in the account of DDO. Upon this, the then Director constituted a high level enquiry committee which unearthed that a serious fraud and financial embezzlement to the tune of rupees 33,03,447.00 pertaining to GPF and 7th pay commission arrears of several employees had been committed by the then DDO and  Cashier.

The report of enquiry committee along with relevant documents was submitted by the then Director to the then Deputy Secretary to the Government, who forwarded the same to Crime Branch Jammu for action under law. Thus, Crime Branch Jammu registered a case FIR No. 4/2021 u/s 409,420,120-B IPC, read with sec 13 Prevention of Corruption Act against the said Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) and his Cashier (who is no more) for criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and fraud at Police Station Crime Branch Jammu and started in-depth investigation , which has been completed on merits, offences have been proved and charge-sheet filed today  in the court of Special Judge Anti Corruption, Jammu.
