Central University of Jammu Conducted Two Day Mobile Journalism Training Workshop

Jammu, 29 March 2024: Central University of Jammu successfully concluded two-day Mobile Journalism Workshop, providing participants with invaluable insights into the world of modern reporting using mobile technology. The workshop was conducted by the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, CUJ in collaboration with the Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare, Central university of Jammu.

 The workshop focused on the theme of “Telling Dynamic Stories Using Mobile Phones,” aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to harness the power of mobile technology in journalism.

Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean of Students’ Welfare, welcomed all the participants and highlighted the importance of embracing innovative tools and techniques in the field of journalism.  She said that Mobile journalism offers unprecedented opportunities to capture and share stories instantaneously. 

 Dr. Abhay Rajput, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, Central university of jammu delivered the introductory remarks and highlighted the significance of mobile journalism in the contemporary media ecosystem. He said that Mobile journalism is a form of digital storytelling where the primary device used for creating and editing images, audio and video is a smartphone. Dr. Abhay stressed the democratizing effect of mobile technology, allowing anyone with a smartphone to become a storyteller.  He said that Mobile journalism transcends barriers of access and empowers individuals to amplify their voices. 

Earlier Mr. Dharminder Kohli, a seasoned film maker and President of Jammu and Kashmir Cine Association shared his experience and insights about film making and mobile journalism gleaned from years of experience in the field, emphasizing practical techniques for capturing compelling visuals and narratives using mobile devices.

Participants eagerly absorbed expertise, engaging in interactive sessions aimed at honing their skills in mobile storytelling. He provided hands-on sessions on creating dynamic stories through mobile devices. Mr. Dharminder also shared his experience and techniques in mobile video production. Participants gained valuable practical knowledge in cinematography, editing, and visual storytelling, learning how to harness the power of mobile devices to create compelling narratives.

 Mr. Ashish Kohli, a well known figure in the field of social media freelancing, shared valuable insights into leveraging digital platforms for effective storytelling and audience engagement. His expertise in content creation and social media strategies enriched the workshop sessions, inspiring participants to explore innovative approaches to journalism in the digital age.

During the two-day workshop, participants will delve into various aspects of mobile journalism, including multimedia storytelling, mobile video production, social media reporting, and ethical considerations in mobile reporting. 

The workshop aimed to empower students with practical skills and knowledge in mobile journalism, recognizing the growing influence of digital platforms in contemporary media. At the end of the workshop the certificates were presented to the participating students. The workshop encouraged a collaborative learning environment, where participants interacted with industry experts, exchanged ideas, and honed their skills in mobile journalism.
