Celebration of National Voter’s Day at GDC Billawar

KATHUA, January 25: DC Billawar, organized  symposium cum extension lecture on the theme “NOTHING LIKE VOTING, I VOTE FOR SURE” under the banner of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in collaboration with NSS wing GDC Billawar on 25th January, 2024 under the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Alka Sharma, Principal GDC Billawar. As we all know that India is the largest and the most vibrant democracy of the world where every vote counts.

Voting gives Indian citizens the power  to form a Government of the People, For the People and By the People. To enhance voter’s awareness and voters’ turnout, ECI has launched SVEEP in 2009. Since its launch SVEEP has led to a steady increase ion voters’ registration and voters’ turnout. Under SVEEP banner, Govt. of India has initiated various activities at Tehsil, Block and Village level to create the awareness about the maximum participation of voters in the elections. 

The proceedings of the program were conducted by Prof. Sunita Devi, Astt. Prof., Deptt. of English, GDC Billawar. The event began with the lighting of lamp followed by formal Welcome address and the honoring of the guests with bouquet. Sh. Vinay Khosla, (JKAS) ADC Billawar, was the Chief Guest of the event accompanied by Sh. Pankaj Sharma, Tehsildar Billawar, Ms. Shifali Bhagat, CDPO Billawar and Sh. Kewal Krishan, Asstt. Registrar, Cooperatives, Billawar. The event proceeded with Pledge taking ceremony followed by symposium in which many students spoke on the said theme.  Sh. Vinay Khosla, the resource person and keynote speaker of the event  highlighted the significance of electoral participation and electoral roll registration in the ongoing electoral roll revision and stressed upon participants for maximum voters; registration. He also shared his experience among participants to register themselves through their concerned BLO’s. Further, he informed the students how to register themselves through various modes like online mode and offline mode and highlighted the educational value and importance of SVEEP and other electoral processes.

The whole program was organized by the SVEEP Committee, GDC Billwar namely Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Convener, Dr. Manu Sharma and Prof. Sunita Devi in Collaboration with NSS Unit GDC, Billawar headed by Prof. Bansi Lal. The program was attended by all the faculty members of the college and concluded with the formal Vote of Thanks by Prof. Kiran Kumari from Deptt. of Environmental Science, GDC Billawar.
