Baramulla’s anti-drug drive: 145 peddlers arrested, drugs worth ₹1.88 crore seized in 2024

Baramulla Police have launched a major crackdown on drug trafficking in the district, resulting in the arrest of 145 drug peddlers in the first four months of 2024. This significant effort is aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade and protecting the community from its harmful effects.

The police registered a total of 79 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during this period. Among those arrested, 36 were identified as hardcore offenders and booked under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and Public Safety Act (PSA).

The crackdown also led to the seizure of 14 vehicles allegedly used in drug trafficking activities. Additionally, the police recovered cash worth Rs 1.57 lakh and seized illegal drugs with a black-market value estimated at Rs 1.88 crore.

The recovered contraband includes 432 grams of Brown Sugar, valued at 73.71 lakhs rupees, 197 grams of Heroin amounting to 38.31 lakhs rupees, 3.864 kilograms of Charas valued at 25.75 lakhs rupees, and 60.97 kilograms of Cannabis Powder worth 40.77 lakhs rupees. Additionally, significant quantities of Spasmoproxyvon Plus and Codeine Phosphate were also seized.

This police action reflects a determined effort to curb the illegal drug trade in Baramulla and protect the community from its harmful effects.
