Awareness, Plantation drive held at GDC Doda to mark World Environment Day-2025

DODA, MAY 31: To commemorate World Environment Day-2025, the Divisional Office of the Pollution Control Committee (PCC) today organized an impactful awareness-cum-plantation programme at Government Degree College (GDC) Doda.
The event was held in collaboration with the office of the Programme Officer ICDS and the college administration, focusing on this year’s global theme—“Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”.

The event aimed to sensitize students and faculty members about the environmental hazards caused by plastic waste and the urgent need to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. A series of informative sessions were held, highlighting the harmful effects of single-use plastic, improper disposal, and the growing burden on ecosystems and human health.
Nearly 300 students and 50 staff members actively took part in the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) pledge, committing to reduce plastic usage, adopt reusable materials and spread awareness among masses. The pledge reinforced the need for conscious individual action in combating plastic pollution at the grassroots level.

The event concluded with a plantation drive on the college campus, where participants planted saplings to promote greener surroundings and carbon sequestration. The initiative served not only as a tribute to nature but also as a call to action for sustainable living and environmental stewardship in line with India’s commitment to climate goals and the global fight against pollution.
