Awareness camp on new criminal laws held at GHSS Ayar Trigam

KISHTWAR, MAY 29: Under the directions of District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shavan, an awareness campaign on three new criminal laws held today at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Ayar Trigam.


The programme was organised by BDO Roopesh Sharma to educate the public about three new criminal laws that came into effect on July 1, 2024 viz Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) – replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – replacing the Indian Evidence Act.
District Development Council member Block Trigam Om Parkash presided over the function as the chief guest. The School Principal Ramesh Kumar and Block Development Officer Roopesh Sharma were guests of honour, while Sub Inspector Rajveer Singh I/c Police Post, Shalimar acted as resource person. Besides school students and Staff, a large number of people from the adjoining areas and Panchayat participated in the awareness campaign.


Sub Inspector Rajveer Singh delivered a detailed lecture and educated the participants about the various changed provisions in the three new criminal laws. He emphasized that these laws aim to provide speedy justice to victims and impose stringent punishments on offenders.


The DDC member Om Prakash, Block Development Officer Roopesh Sharma and the School Principal Ramesh Kumar also briefed the participants about the provisions of new three criminal laws. They enjoined the participants to have full awareness about their rights available under three new criminal laws.


They also highlighted that the new laws prioritize justice over punishment and are designed to ensure speedy justice and enhance accessibility.
Secretary Panchayat Poonam Sharma conducted the whole event.
