Assam Rifles recovers heroin worth Rs 3.5 crore in Manipur’s Jiribam

Jiribam (Manipur) [India], April 25 (ANI): Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Jiribam Police, apprehended two individuals with 30 soap cases of heroin worth Rs 3.5 crore from Manipur’s Jiribam district, an official said.

The security forces conducted the joint operation on April 24, an official said.

“Assam Rifles has demonstrated its commitment to a drug-free society while also setting an example for commendably tackling the drug smuggling nexus, contributing significantly to curbing illicit drug trafficking across North Eastern states,” Assam Rifles said in a statement.

On April 12, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Manipur Police, recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and war-like stores in Thoubal, an official said.

The recovered items include one bolt-action rifle, one 9mm carbine, one 9mm pistol, four 51mm mortar bombs, eight grenades, ammunition, and other warlike stores.

“Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in general area Pechi, in Thoubal district, Manipur, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, including Commandos, launched a search operation on April 12, 2024, and recovered one bolt action rifle, one 9mm Carbine, one 9 mm pistol, four 51mm mortar bombs, eight grenades, ammunition and other warlike stores. The recovered items have been handed over to the police,” Assam Rifles said in a statement.
