Arun Gupta stresses on heightened vigilance, citizen sensitivity to ensure peace and security in Jammu

Jammu, 06 May 2025: Emphasizing the need for constant vigilance in the current security landscape, Arun Gupta, Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, today addressed a press conference at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar. He was accompanied by senior party leaders Sanjay Kumar Baru and Prof. Kulbhushan Mohtra.

Gupta underlined that peace in the region must not be taken for granted and cautioned against any complacency, stating that “no incidents for some time” does not justify lowering the guard. He highlighted that daily precision monitoring by concerned agencies is crucial to prevent any uncalled-for disasters.

Citing the issue of unauthorized vehicle parking at locations such as Maharaja Hari Singh Park and Bahu Plaza in Jammu, Gupta said these areas pose serious security concerns. In today’s environment, even the smallest oversight can be exploited by elements with nefarious intentions. “Suspicious underground organizations with terrorist links are continuously assessing systemic vulnerabilities to plan attacks,” he warned.

The BJP spokesperson stressed that ensuring safety is not solely the job of security agencies. Citizens too must play a proactive role in reporting suspicious objects, movements, or abandoned vehicles. “A conscious and vigilant society is key to effective security. Every citizen must act as the eyes and ears of the system,” he added.

Gupta also criticized the prevalent post-incident response mechanism, advocating instead for a culture of prevention. “Monitoring should be habitual and ongoing. Reacting only after an incident occurs neither ensures safety nor strengthens future preparedness,” he remarked.

Highlighting the broader consequences of any security lapse, he pointed out that such incidents disrupt peace, economic activity, education, and daily life. “Uncertain environments affect business, create fear, and impact students. This is not the path to progress,” he asserted.

Drawing lessons from developed countries, Gupta noted that while incidents may occur even in highly monitored regions, the key lies in learning from them to prevent recurrence. He urged for a similar approach in Jammu & Kashmir.

Concluding with a strong message, he said, “A stitch in time saves nine. We must act now, stay alert, and adopt a precautionary mindset. Only a conscious and cautious society can help avoid preventable tragedies and maintain lasting peace.”
