KISHTWAR, JULY 16: The Department of Animal Husbandry Kishtwar, under the guidance of Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, initiated the third phase of Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccination (FMD vaccination) as part of the National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP).

The launch event was held at Suresh Dairy Farm in Indra Nagar and witnessed active participation of vaccination teams and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons supervised by Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sen.

The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) highlighted the significance of the vaccination and informed the attendees that the campaign will span for a duration of 45 days during which all bovine animals will be vaccinated against Foot and Mouth Disease.

He emphasized that the vaccine will be provided free of cost to all livestock owners.

The Department of Animal Husbandry has directed the vaccination teams to ensure the convenience of farmers by extending doorstep vaccination services.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sen urged all farmers to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure the vaccination of their animals.

It is pertinent to mention here that, Foot and Mouth Disease is a highly contagious viral infection that affects cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, goats, and sheep. It can lead to significant economic losses for farmers due to reduced milk production and impaired meat quality.

The National Animal Disease Control Program aims to control and eradicate this disease through strategic vaccination campaigns and improved animal health management practices.
