ADC Leh Ghulam Mohd convenes meeting ahead of World Environment Day 2025

Leh, May 29, 2025: The Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh Ghulam Mohammad (JKAS) convened a meeting to discuss the preparation for World Environment Day on May 29 ,2025 at VC Room DC Office, Leh.

The meeting was followed up in receipt of minutes of meeting received from Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), UT Ladakh with the aim to deliberate on preparations and collaborative efforts required to observe world environment day.

During the meeting, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Stanzin Rabgais rolled out a detailed calendar for activities ahead of World Environment Day 2025, with a special emphasis this year on public awareness and behavioral change apart from cleanliness drives. The calendar will follow Sustainablity Advocady Day, Student Engagement Day, Clean Market Day, Rural Cleanup Drive, Tourist Hotspot Cleanup Challenge, Clean Water Drive and Grand World Environement Day where pledges, awareness rallies, cleanliness drive, zero waste craft bazaar and cleaning of water bodies will be done engaging students, community members, tourists and various stakeholders.

He also highlighted that all participating Departments and stakeholders will assemble in Leh Market on 30th May 2025 to take pledges committing to plastic reduction and sustainable waste practices. Each department will also emphasized to present innovative ideas and action plans for minimizing waste and promoting environmentally friendly alternatives within their areas.

Stakeholders from various agencies also shared their opinions and suggested to keep dustbins at various locations in the vicinity of Leh Town which will help to keep the area clean.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh directed all the departments and stakeholders to coordinate with each other and follow the calendar of activities for World Environment Day. He also stressed on the importance of the Day, thereby committing to keep our surrounding clean.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Forest Officer, Leh; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh; President ALTOA, President ALHGHA and various other officials and stakeholders.
