Initiate the recipe by taking yeast, sugar, & water in a bowl and letting it sit in a corner for the yeast to activate. When it blooms, drizzle some oil in it.
Take another large bowl and mix 3 cups of flour and some salt in it. Pour the yeast mixture into the dry mixture and combine them well. When it starts to come together, dust some flour on the clean kitchen counter and put the combined mixture on it to knead until it is soft.
Oil a bowl and place the dough into it to rise for at least 60 minutes in a warm corner. Take the dough out when it’s doubled in size and punch it lightly to let the air out. Keep it aside for another 5 minutes.
Shape the dough into a loaf or any shape of your choice and put it on a baking sheet with some cornmeal sprinkled on the top. Keep it aside to rise again for 30 minutes.
Take a sharp knife, make a few slits on the dough top, and brush it with some egg white.
In the preheated oven, put the loaf to bake for 25 to 35 minutes. Make sure the prepared bread sounds hollow when tapped.
Let it cool completely, and your delicious rustic Italian bread is ready.
