“International community need to come together against terrorism”: BJD MP Sasmit Patra after Op Sindoor outreach concludes
New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): Describing India’s global outreach campaign as ‘constructive’, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP and member of the all-party delegation said on Wednesday that the international community must come together and speak in one voice against terrorism.
After returning to India, a member of the all-party delegation led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, BJD MP Sasmit Patra, said that the international community “strongly” condemned the terrorism that was “perpetrated” by Pakistan against India.
“Our delegation, led by Dr Shrikant Eknath Shinde, visited four countries – the UAE, Sierra Leone, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo – as part of the all-party delegation that was sent out. After having visited the four countries, we have returned this morning. All the meetings across these four countries have been very positive, very constructive, especially the issues that we are supposed to sensitise were related to terrorism perpetuated by Pakistan on India over the past four decades, the context of Operation Sindoor and the need for the international community to come together and to stand strongly as one voice, as one planet against terrorism, and the zero tolerance towards terrorism and the new normal of India were also shared,” the Rajya Sabha MP told ANI.
Referring to an incident of support during their visit, Patra said, “In Liberia, the senate stood up in one voice and observed a one-minute silence, remembering those who were killed in the terror attack in Pahalgam. In Sierra Leone, the Parliament observed a one-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in Pahalgam.”
He also said that their visit to four countries was extremely successful, adding that the objective set out for this diplomatic initiative has been achieved.
“I can provide several such instances which show how all of these nations strongly condemned the terrorism that was perpetrated by Pakistan against India, and also in one voice showed the tremendous support for this fight against terrorism. In a nutshell, I would say that this all-party delegation that went to these four countries was extremely successful, and the objective that was set out for this diplomatic initiative has been achieved,” Patra said.
The delegation, led by Shiv Sena MP Shinde, includes BJP MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, Manan Kumar Mishra, Indian Union Muslim League’s ET Mohammed Basheer, Biju Janata Dal’s Sasmit Patra, BJP leader SS Ahluwalia, and former Ambassador Sujan Chinoy.
As part of the visit, the delegation travelled to the UAE, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone, engaging in high-level meetings to strengthen bilateral relations and promote India’s global outreach.
The group briefed international partners on India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries.
The all-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. (ANI)
