Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President said that ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ campaign aims to reach out to people in the hinterlands ahead of the 2024 general elections. This state-level campaign, he said, will strengthen the Congress’ prospects and act as an extension of the Kanyakumari to Kashmir ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ that passed through the politically crucial state recently. The ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ campaign is aimed at apprising people at the grassroots level of the failures of the central government, he said. What we mean to say by this is that the abhiyan is the second phase of the yatra. The BJY went beyond politics and issues were raised on the basis of ideology by Rahul Gandhi. It had nothing to do with elections.
But in the Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan, we have a direct target — the failures of the Narendra Modi government,” he added.
“The aim of the campaign is to apprise the people of the kind of hatred which is seen in society and the prevailing situation in J&K. We have presented certain facts against the government on issues such as farmer suicides, betrayal of the youth, and how their dreams were shattered by the central and the J&K governments,” he said. The anti-people policies of the BJP government at the Centre and in J&K being highlighted by organising ‘chaupal’ and ‘sabha’ in the villages, he added.’Haath Se Haath Jodo’ recounts the “sweet and sour” experiences of the former Congress Chief during his journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, besides flagging issues of unemployment, inflation, and atrocities carried out by the BJP government in the country and J&K, he said.
Raman Bhalla speaking on the occasion talked about about inflation, unemployment, women’s safety, central government’s handling of China, rise in hate speeches, alleged capturing of institutions, and toppling of elected governments. After the successful conclusion of the historic Bharat Jodo Yatra, Haath Se Haath Jodo campaign is set to bring change and highlight the issues concerning people, which are being ignored by the Modi government in order to hide its failures on all fronts.
The campaign has already received an overwhelming response like the Bharat Jodo Yatra received given the Congress Party’s constructive role and strenuous efforts to ensure justice for people and bring the country back on the path of prosperity and development.
Under this campaign, by reaching 6 lakh villages, 2.50 lakh gram panchayats and 10 lakh polling booths, the message of Rahul Gandhi and the charge-sheet of the failures of the Modi government would be delivered to every household. He claimed that ever since the Modi government came to power, inflation is breaking the back of the citizens of the country. The gas cylinder, which cost Rs 410 in 2014, had reached beyond Rs 1050. Petrol prices had reached from Rs 70 per litre to over Rs 100 per litre, while the price of diesel had increased from Rs 55 per litre to around Rs 90 per litre now. The price of edible oil and pulses was Rs 70 per kg, but now had crossed Rs 200 per kg. He added that prices of crude oil were continuously decreasing in the international market, but the Modi government is not reducing the prices of petrol and diesel. India now ranks below Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh in the Hunger Index, the Congress leader claimed, even as the debts of the rich were being waived by the Modi Government.
JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla charged the BJP Government with failure to address all the outstanding issues of the refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).“The present Government is not serious to address their long pending issues of PoK refugees,” he said and reminded that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, during his visit to Jammu before the Assembly elections in 2014, had assured the PoK displaced persons that their issues would be addressed and they must wait for the same.Bhalla said the Government should re-examine the one-time package that was sent to the Centre by the previous Government and take a decision on it. He asked the DPs to keep full faith in Congress, which will provide them justice.
JKPCC Chief Spokesperson said after observing that BJP Govt for the sake of power and votes are dividing people on religious, regional and sensitive issues Congress Party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi started the Bharat Jodo Yatra to unite the people of India, which has witnessed overwhelming response. He claimed that the BJP government at the centre has failed to provide enough employment opportunities to the youth of the youngest country in the world. Every family of the country has been pushed into the fire of inflation, he added. He claimed that false promises had been made by the Modi Government, like doubling the income of the farmers, while opportunities are being created only for certain industrialist friends while, to cover up the failures, India is being pushed into a quagmire of hatred, despair and negativity.
JKPCC Minority Department Chairman Rajinder Singh Nathu regretted that since the 2014, BJP-led Government at the Centre is brazenly ditching the helpless refugees in one way or another. “Instead of addressing long pending just and genuine demands of the refugees, the present Government has adopted a ‘callous approach’ on this issue human issue”, said Singh. He recalled that former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had announced a comprehensive package for refugees of PoK. He reminded that it was Dr. Manmohan Singh who had unfolded a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the Kashmiri migrants and refugees, including those from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. “Instead of betraying the helpless refugees in one way or another, the BJP Government at the Centre should implement that package in letter and spirit to solve all problems of the refugees”, he said.
