3- Day Historic Sankri Devta Mela commences amid religious fervor, gaiety

UDHAMPUR, September 15: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Udhampur, Ghan Shyam Singh, along with DDC member Jasvir Singh, on Friday inaugurated the three-day historic Sankri Devta Mela amidst drum beats and festivity in Village Meer, Tehsil Panchari, in the district of Udhampur.

DDC Member Jasvir Singh, Mela Officer Tehsildar Panchari, Vipan Kumar, BDO, and other senior officers graced the occasion with their presence.

The ADDC congratulated the mela committee for organizing such a grand celebration. He also commended the local students for their participation in different games and cultural programs and wished them success in their future endeavors.

The ADDC highlighted the various welfare schemes launched by the Government of India for the general public and encouraged the gathering to take full advantage of these schemes.

After inaugurating the mela, the ADDC inspected stalls put up by different departments to promote different government-sponsored schemes. He urged the officers to put in sincere and dedicated efforts to inform the general public about these schemes designed for the upliftment of rural communities.

DDC member Panchari-Moungri expressed gratitude to the district administration for its full support in organizing the mela. He emphasized that pilgrims, tourists, and people of all beliefs from different places within the district and outside the Union Territory attended the event.

Later, the ADDC Udhampur paid respects at the Sankri Devta Temple and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the residents of the district.

The district administration made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the mela, including uninterrupted power supply, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, medical assistance, a Police Control Room, and security measures.    

Numerous temporary sweet shops, toy shops, and other food corners, both by local vendors and outside sellers, were the main attractions for the general public.

During the event, the Youth Services and Sports Department of Udhampur organized rural sports and cultural activities with the active participation of school students from the area.
