DC Jammu chairs meeting for setting up animal shelters

JAMMU, June 10: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa today chaired a meeting to discuss arrangements for establishment of animal shelters to be managed by Society for Prevention of Cruelty on Animals (SPCA).

Threadbare discussions held regarding notification of per day rates for feeding animals and their maintenance charges, empanelment of two lawyers with District SPCA Jammu, status regarding SPCA land in Chowadi and plantation in the shelter were discussed in the meeting.


It was decided that the per day expenditure rate would be increased from rupees 250 to 265 per animal as per Animal Rule 2017 for feeding and maintenance. Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officer from Forest Department to launch plantation drive at animal shelter places.

Besides the status of land in Chowadi, matters regarding fencing, power and water supply and plantation around animal shelters were also discussed. CPO Yoginder Katoch, ACG Rakesh Dubey, Vice President SPCA Devinder Kour besides senior officers from Animal Husbandry, Forest, PHE, PDD and other concerned departments were present in the meeting.
