CEC Feroz Khan flags off Zanskar marathon

KARGIL, September 30 : Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of Executive Councilor Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affairs, Er Punsok Tashi today flagged off Zanskar Marathon from Tourist Reception Centre to Tourist Dak Banglow Padum.



Principal GMDC Zanskar Nasir Shabani, Councilor Lungnak Stanzin Lakpa, Councilor Thasgam Abdul Rahim, Director Sports GMDC Zanskar Murtaza Ali, Refree Zanskar Marathon Muhammad Ishaq and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.


This year’s theme for the marathon was "Run for Unity" in order to make Ladakh Zanskar festival more interesting. 250 participants took part In the marathon.


The marathon was held in three different categories including 4 kilometres, 2 kilometres and 1 kilometer from sports ground near TRC to Tourist Dak Banglow Padum.


The 4 kilometres race was flagged off by CEC while the 2 kilometres and 1 kilometre race was flagged off by ZPO Zanskar.



Meanwhile, the start and finish point of all races was the sports ground near TRC at Padum where participants were appreciated for showing their performance in the marathon and were felicitated with medals and certificates.


In the category of male of higher classes covering 4 kilometres, Furbo Dorjay, Bilal Abbas, Tsering Norbo bagged first, second and third positions respectively.


Similarly, under the female category, Padma Choskit, Fulzang Angmo and Tsenzing Idwong bagged first, second and third positions respectively.


In category of male of middle classes, Tenzin Lakden, Tundup Gagyal and Tenzin Angchuk bagged first, second and third positions respectively.


Similarly in category of female of middle classes Mehnaaz Fatima, Tsenzin Rigzin, Dechen Chozom bagged first, second and third positions respectively.



In category of male of primary classes Tenzin Yougjor, Jigmat Stangay and Tanzia Dowa bagged first, second and third positions respectively.


Similarly in the category of female of primary classes Tenzin Choszom, Tanzin Kanzom and Tenzin Chosdor bagged first, second and third positions respectively.


All the participants showed zeal and made the event successful. The dignitaries appreciated the participants and said this marathon will remain an example for future marathons.
