Awareness workshop on solid waste management organised in Rajouri
RAJOURI, April 19: Municipal Council, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority today organised an awareness workshop on solid waste management here at Town Hall Rajouri.
Solid waste management experts and consultants were invited to acquaint the stakeholders about the scientific methods of disposal.
President Municipal Council Rajouri, Advocate Mohammad Arif, Councillor Advocate Yogesh Sharma; Councillor Mamta Dutt; Councillor Rabia Qureshi; Chairman DLSA Rajouri Surinder Kumar Thapa, Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Aslam; District Statistics Officer Sandeep Sharma; EO Municipal Council Rajouri, Mohammad Yaqoob; Volunteers of District Legal Services Authority were present during the event.
The main objective of the program was to generate a holistic understanding of solid waste management issues, including the best practices and the importance of proper sanitation. In his address, the President MC said that better Solid waste management will lessen the hazards of pollution on the environment as well as on the public health.
“It is the need of the hour to work out an effective plan to manage the solid waste effectively for minimizing its negative effects on health and environment,” he said. He said that the MC was organizing a series of activities to promote sanitation and discourage the use of plastic and other solid material hazardous to environment and human health.
The President also urged the public to shun the use of single-use plastic and go for the eco-friendly alternatives to protect the environment and rivers. The participants were also made aware of several measures which can help manage and segregate the solid waste effectively.
