ABVP protests against Tamil Naidu Government on Suicide of Class 12 Student who Died After Forced

JAMMU January 31: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Parade Chowk against the Tamil Naidu government on the Suicide of a Class 12 Student who died After forced Conversion.

Lavanya, a student of Sacred Hearts High School in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, died by suicide due to the intolerable torture she received from two nuns of the school staff who pressurised Lavanya, for converting to Christianity.

On January 24, the teenager died by herself allegedly over a forced religious conversion.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad strongly condemns this incident and demands from the government to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into this suicide.

ABVP Jammu Kashmir State Secretary Mukesh Manhas said that the suicide of a girl student at Sacred Hearts High School in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu due to pressure of conversion is heartbreaking. We are in this fight for justice. We stand with the family of the deceased.

He further said an end be put to institutional evangelism in all Christian Missionary Schools. To ensure that institutional evangelism is not practised, a proper regulatory framework to separate Churches and Masjid from the schools has to be strictly enforced. Forced Conversion should be made a punishable offence and so the need for Anti-Conversion Law is very sound and its timely implementation in the State and across the Nation is imperative.

A proper and transparent enquiry shall be conducted for bringing to light the cruelties faced by Lavanya and culprit teachers, which must be terminated with immediate effect. An IPS officer, with a good track record, should be appointed as the investigating officer.
