Here are some fashion designers from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that you should follow right away (in no particular order) whether for a special occasion or just to scroll through their eye-grabbing pieces.

Nafisa Rachel William

Delhi-based celebrity fashion designer/stylist Nafisa Rachel William hails from Jammu, who started her journey in 2010. Her love for literature inspires her collection of sarees, and she also has a range of western and Indo-western wear, which is fresh and classy. Her clientele includes top Bollywood celebrities like Dia Mirza, Soha Ali Khan, Neha Dhupia, etc.

Ujala Azad

Delhi-based designer Ujala Azad hails from Jammu, who initiated the ‘Modern Bride’ concept in 2017. The label artfully blends traditional festivity with a wide range of tints and tones embroidery of zardozi, dabka and katdana in starling fabric. Her clientele includes top renowned celebrities like Zareen Khan, Karan Singh Grover, Amyra Dastur, Priya Malik, etc.

Stanzin Palmo - Zilzom

Ladakh-based label 'Zilzom' founded by designer Stanzin Palmo in 2018, redefines Ladakh’s culture, tradition, nature, and local textiles like Pashmina (Lena) and wool (Nambu). Zilzom made its runway debut at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive '19 as one of the Gennext winners and showcased their collection “Between the Earth and Sky”. The label won the Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour (The Showcase) in 2020. • Wajahat Rather- Raffughar

Delhi-based label 'Raffughar' was founded by Wajahat Rather, who hails from Anantnag. The label was started in 2013 with Namda rugs, pashmina stoles and was later diversified into apparel in 2017. This label intends to revive the traditional and natural craft-making processes in the contemporary global market scenario. They designed for Bollywood celebrity Sushmita Sen for her web series “Aarya”.

Sanat and Himani

Jammu-based label 'Sanat and Himani', founded by designer couple Sanat and Himani in 2016, is a label that creates ensembles ranging from western, indo-western, Indian- inspired by the aura of luxury & elegance. They have designed costumes for various advertisements, and their clientele spans India and Dubai. They have also designed for renowned singer Sonu Nigam.

Jigmat Norbu and Jigmat Wangmo- Jigmat Couture

Ladakh-based label 'Jigmat Couture' founded by Jigmat Norbu and his wife Jigmat Wangmo in 2010, is an example of a sustainable community-based business model which makes Ladakhi handlooms using Camel wool sheep wool, etc. It pays homage to Ladakhi art and tradition by generating local employment and absorbing the skills of immensely talented artisans from remote corners of the region.

Mufti Sadia- Hangers the closet

Mufti Sadia founded Srinagar based label ‘Hangers the Closet’ in 2014. The label primarily deals with ethnic and fusion wear. She also designs Pherans, which can be customised according to the customer’s requirements. They have clients across India and the world.

Shahid Rashid Bhat- Srb Style by shahid

Kashmir based label ‘Srb’ by Shahid was founded by Shahid Rashid Bhat, who hails from Pulwama. Shahid was chosen as Designer of the year in 2015 by the Designing Council of India. The label has clientele across India, Pakistan, UK, Afghanistan, etc.

Anjulla Puri and Rakshak Puri- The Silver Needle Bespoke

Jammu based label 'The Silver Needle Bespoke' was started by Anjulla Puri in 2011 with women apparel, and in 2018, Rakshak Puri introduced men's clothing. This mother-son duo works on the tagline 'You pitch it, we stitch it'. Their clientele is based in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Mumbai, and in Australia and Canada. The face of Mountain Dew, Archana Sardana, is their client, and they have also stitched for the crew of Agnee Band.

Numair Shah- GM Shah - The Kashmir Art Store

Srinagar based label 'GM Shah' was started 50 years back by Ghulam Mohammad Shah and is now run by his grandson Numair Shah. They deal in embroidered dress material, shawls, sarees, coats, bedcovers, etc. They have designed costumes for the Bollywood movie ‘Rockstar’, and renowned faces like Manish Malhotra, Farhan Akhtar, Tabu have shopped from their store.
