KVK-Shopian organizes orientation programme on PMDDKY at Balpora
SHOPIAN,OCTOBER, 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Shopian today organized the Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) orientation programme at Balapora, Shopian.
The event also featured the live telecast of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s address,which was witnessed by over three hundred farmers from across the district.
The programme was graced by the presence of MLA Shopian, Adv.Shabir Ahmad Kullay, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta; ADDC,Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; ADC,Dr.Zakir Hussain Faaz; Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Shopian,Prof.Zaffar Afroz Badri, scientists of the Kendra, representatives from NGO REACHA, NRLM, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), progressive and champion farmers, farm women and tribal farmers.
In his address, MLA lauded the efforts of KVK-Scientists for their continued outreach to every corner of the district and for sensitizing farmers about various government schemes and initiatives aimed at their welfare.
On the occasion, the DC visited the stall displayed some of the promising varieties of Apple, Almond, Walnut, Maize, Muskmelon and some vegetables successfully cultivated at research cum demonstration farms of Krishi Vigyan Kendra to showcase the technologies of the varsity to the participants for their horizontal expansion in the district to encourage the socio-economic status of the farming community.
Prof. Zaffar Afroz Badri presented an overview of the PMDDKY programme, highlighting its objectives for holistic agricultural development through the convergence of 38 schemes operated under eleven Central Ministries, the State Government, and private entrepreneurs.
The workshop focused on enhancing farmers’ understanding of the financial, technical, and institutional benefits available under PMDDKY.
Discussions covered key themes including natural farming practices to reduce chemical load in soils, restore mineral balance, and improve irrigation facilities, Increasing cropping intensity and diversifying production to achieve higher yields, processing and value addition of farm produce through grading, packaging, and efficient transportation to increase market value and shelf life, pulse production improvement, addressing both quality and quantity aspects for enhanced productivity.
Participants appreciated the initiative of KVK-Shopian for organizing such an informative and farmer-centric event aimed at sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth.
The event witnessed an inauguration of Custom Hiring Centre of KVK-Shopian by the MLA.
