Kala Kendra crucially instrumental in preserving, promoting cultural heritage of Jammu region: Secy Tourism

JAMMU, MARCH 14: Secretary, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, today visited Kala Kendra here and took stock of its functioning.

During the visit, Secretary had an extensive round of exhibition halls, archive sections and other blocks of the complex and inspected the working. He asked the Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) for proper maintenance of Kala Kendra as it is crucially instrumental in preserving and promoting pristine cultural heritage of Jammu region. He also asked him for proper landscaping, repairing and renovation of different sections of the building.

While inspecting different sections of the institution, Secretary praised the staff and artists for their hard work and dedication in promoting the diverse cultural heritage of the region. He emphasized on importance of preserving the traditional art forms for larger interest of the posterity.

Interacting with the officers, Dr. Abid highlighted that Kala Kendra is a prestigious institution playing pivotal role in promoting the rich and diverse culture of Jammu region. He impressed upon the management of Kala Kendra for optimal utilization of this prestigious institution by holding handicrafts, handloom and photo exhibitions on regular basis.

Speaking on other aspects of the institution, Secretary asked the Director Libraries to create space for reading room in the district library housed in Kala Kendra. He also directed the management for proper security of the institution as it houses the most sensitive archival material.

During the visit, Secretary was given a detailed briefing on the activities and programs being conducted by Kala Kendra for the promotion and preservation of art and culture in the region. He also had a first-hand experience of various art forms showcased in the Kendra’s galleries and workshops.

Among others, Secretary was accompanied by Director Libraries, Secretary JKAACL and other senior officers of Culture department.
