Group of 40 Samba farmers flagged off for training-cum-exposure tour
SAMBA, OCTOBER 14: The Department of Horticulture Samba organized a 4 day training-cum-exposure tour for a group of 42 farmers/orchardists under the “Training of Farmers within UT of J&K” component of CSS-Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture.
District Development Commissioner Ayushi Sudan flagged off the tour and also interacted with the visiting group of farmers/orchardists.
The aim of this training programme is to acquaint the farmers with the modern horticulture practices being used in departmental nurseries and farms and the Centre of Excellence SKUAST-J.
The visit would provide touring farmers an opportunity to learn about the plant propagation techniques i.e. layering, budding and grafting of sub-tropical as well as temperate fruit plants adopted for multiplication of fruit plants.
While interacting with the farmers Chief horticulture Officer Anil Kr Gorka briefed them about the UT and Centrally Sponsored schemes of the department. He urged them to avail maximum the benefit of components offering assistance for creation of Water sources, Drip Irrigation, Vermi compost units, protected cultivation, tools and implements, Farm mechanization. He also laid emphasis on the plantation of strawberry and other exotic fruits like Dragon to enhance their income.
Under the supervision and leadership of District Level Matter Specialist (P.P) Raivti Raman Sharma, the farmers will be provided all types of technical support and assistance during the tour programme.
