GDC Nubra organises awareness programme on drug abuse

Leh, June 02: In an attempt to take the torch of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav forward, the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment and the Sports Department of Government Degree College, Nubra organised an awareness programme on Drug Abuse in collaboration with Ladakh Police. 

The session started with presentations by four students of the college on Drugs and Drug Abuse followed by power-point presentations by two faculties, College Director of Physical Education, Dr Tsering Spalzom, and Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Mohd Yaseen. Both the faculties spoke about how drugs are being abused on a large scale in our country and how this menace can be controlled.

Station House Officer, Police Station Diskit Nubra spoke about various drugs and their usage in Ladakh and the necessary steps they took to control drug trafficking and its abuse. He also specified various police procedures related to drug abuse control.

Principal Dr. Tsewang Motup spoke about the importance of each stakeholder in society uniting against drug abuse and being an active citizen and aware others about drug abuse. He requested the students against the use of drugs. He expressed concern over the recent cases of contraband substances that came to the fore in Ladakh and advised the youths to channel their energy in positive directions and not to fall prey to such substances.

Students and staff of the college and Govt Higher Secondary School, Diskit, and the Police personnel attended the programme, which ended with a video screening on drug abuse.
