Jammu & Kashmir: Amavasya occurs only once in a month and its presiding deity is Pitru Dev (the ancestors). This year, the Margashirsha Amavasya tithi will begin on 19 November, Wednesday at 09:44 AM and will end on 20 November, Thursday at 12:44 PM.

Those who wish to perform pitru-karma, shraddha, tarpan or pind daan may do so on 19 November, Wednesday afternoon.
Those who wish to take a holy dip in rivers, offer charity, or observe the Amavasya fast may do so on 20 November, Thursday.
Mahant Rohit Shastri (Jyotishacharya), President of Shri Kailakh Jyotish avim Vedic Sansthan Trust, stated that this tithi is considered highly auspicious for pitru tarpan, pind daan, and various acts of charity.
According to the scriptures, bathing in sacred rivers on this day grants prosperity, good health, and liberation from sins. If one cannot visit a river, then mixing Ganga water in the bathing water at home and giving charity to the needy is considered auspicious. Feeding flour balls to fish in rivers or ponds on Amavasya is also said to bring great benefits.

Effect of Amavasya on the Mind
In astrology, the Moon is considered the deity of the mind. On Amavasya, the Moon is not visible, hence its effect is stronger on emotional individuals, especially women.
People with negative thinking may experience increased negativity, so it is important to keep the mind calm.
