DNA confirms Dr Umar drove explosive-laden car in Red Fort blast; Linked to ‘White Collar’ terror module
New Delhi, Nov 13: In a major development into the Delhi Blast Case near Red Fort, the DNA tests have confirmed that Dr Umar Nabi was driving the car at the time of explosion that exploded near Delhiās Red Fort on Nov 10 earlier this week, police sources confirmed on Thursday. The forensic match was recognised after samples collected from the blast site were analysed alongside DNA from Umarās mother, collected on Tuesday.
Umar, resident of Koil village in district Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, was identified as a key member of a āwhite collarā terror module which was busted just a few hours before the blast. The module linked to proscribed outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, operated across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Three doctors were arrested in the crackdown.
The high-intensity explosion took place on the evening of Nov 10 when a slow-moving car blasted near the Red Fort area of Delhi, triggering panic and raising serious security concerns in the region. Investigators have, seized nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosive materials including ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and sulphur during the investigation proceedings and crackdown on terror networks.
However, security agencies are investigating deeper into the moduleās network and possible cross-border links, as the incident marks a dangerous shift in the use of educated operatives and high-grade explosives in terror plots targeting urban centres in the nation.
